WEST JORDAN -- A West Jordan couple recently rallied an entire community to help a 3-year-old boy who was injured in an accident involving a lawn mower. We gave them a High 5 for their efforts.

Karsen Mery lost part of his leg in the accident. He has undergone several surgeries and faces more.

Karsen's neighbors, Jason and Cindy Jacobson, knew that would put a financial strain on his family. So they organized a 5K fundraiser to help.

About 400 people ran, bike, and walked for Karsen during the event a couple of months ago. It raised more than $6,000.

Gladys Schoppe nominated the Jacobsons for a High 5.

We asked them why they put so much time and effort into helping Karsen's family.

"We love them so much and knew the situation was devastating. I knew as a mother if it happened to me I couldn't imagine," Cindy said. "I just wanted to do anything I could. It just broke my heart and I just love them so much."

The Jacobsons were surprised by all the support from the community.

"It started with an idea, and we had three weeks to put it together. It was amazing how quickly everybody joined hands and put the event together," Jason explained. "It really was somewhat easy because everybody took over. It was awesome."

As part of the High 5, the Jacobsons received tickets to the Brian Regan show at Abravanel Hall on March 13. If you would like to nominate someone for a High 5, see the link on this page.
