ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A Hurricane man charged with illegally killing seven deer has been sentenced to 24 days in jail.
Matthew Steven Spendlove was charged in August with seven misdemeanors related to poaching in Washington County.
On Thursday, the 25-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor wanton destruction of wildlife. Other charges were dismissed.
In addition to the jail time, Spendlove was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine, $2,800 in restitution and write a letter of apology.
The case began in November 2008 when a caller to a state tip line reported deer had been killed outside of hunting season. State wildlife officials eventually searched Spendlove's home and found seven sets of deer antlers along with cell phone photos and other evidence.
