PROVO -- The Utah Highway Patrol believes alcohol was involved in a rollover accident that sent a truck into the water in Provo Canyon early Monday morning.
Troopers say the Chevrolet pickup truck was headed down State Route 92 from Sundance shortly after midnight when it rolled and landed upside down in a tributary of the Provo River.
Two of the three passengers inside the truck managed to escape before help arrived.
UHP Sgt. David Rumfield said, "They had to go under the window that was submerged to get out of the truck. The male that was left in the truck was pretty much submerged in the truck for a good portion of the time."
Troopers say that man may have been submerged for as long as 40 minutes before crews were able to cut the truck open and pull him out.
He and another man are listed in serious condition; the third is in fair condition.
