SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's court system is offering a free divorce education class for children.
State statistics show nearly 11,000 Utah children are affected by divorce each year, with 2,500 of those in Salt Lake County.
To address the needs of those children, divorce education classes are being offered twice each month at no charge to participants. The class is intended for children between 9 and 12 years old whose parents have filed for divorce or whose parents are divorced.
The classes provides children with skills they can use to better communicate their feelings to parents. A mental health professionals teaches the class with the assistance of a state court commissioner.
The first classes in 2010 will be offered on Jan. 11 and Jan. 30.
