PAYSON -- Family and friends of a man killed in his home earlier this week gathered to pay their respects Saturday.

Funeral services for Kay Mortensen were held in Payson.

Mortensen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had recently returned from a service mission at Cove Fort.

His friends and church leaders remembered him as someone who could always make them smile.

"He had a good sense of humor and it was a pleasure to serve with him," said Gary Lewis, who served as a missionary with Mortensen.

Others remembered his as a beloved member of the community.

"He was very, very loved by many people. A lot of people respected him and he was able to bring smiles to everyone," said Daniel Humphries, bishop of the LDS Mapledale Ward.

Mortensen was killed on Monday, when investigators said two men broke into his house, slashed his throat and tied up two others.

Authorities haven't released many details of their investigation, but said several agencies were involved in tracking down the killers.
