Juan Diego 35, Wasatch 14
Wasatch put up a good fight and their spread offense was fun to watch but it wasn't enough to dethrone the defending champs. Juan Diego's ability to run the ball was the difference. The Soaring Eagle had 312 of their 421 offensive yards come on the ground. Tana Vea had 30 carries for 187 yards and 3 scores. Wasatch was held to just 228 yards of total offense and 23 points below their season average. The win for Juan Diego didn't come without a cost. We confirmed after the game that star receiver and defensive back Keegan Anderson suffered a broken leg early in the 3rd quarter and will miss next Friday's state championship game against the winner of the Hurricane/Park City semifinal on Friday morning.

Juan Diego found the end zone again. Tana Vea scored on a one yard dive, his third touchdown of the game, and the Soaring Eagle lead 35-14. Time is running out for Wasatch. On 3rd and 2 Juan Diego has no trouble getting a first down. They are on the Wasatch 22 as the clock continues to wind down.

Wasatch is forced to punt deep in their own territory. Juan Diego returns the punt to the Wasps 46 yard line with 7:54 left in the game.

Big play for Juan Diego. Running back Tana Vea broke a tackle and took off 24 yards for a score right up the middle of the Wasps defense. With 9:30 left the Wasps have a big hill to climb but have the offense to get it done.

More bad news for Juan Diego. Lars Gunderson has left the game with an injury. It doesn't look as serious as the injury suffered by Keegan Anderson. Anderson was carted off early in the 3rd quarter with a leg injury.

The 3rd quarter has come to an end with Juan Diego holding on to a 7 point lead and posession on their own 32 yard line. They start the quarter with a big running play around the end by Lars Gunderson. The Soaring Eagle are in Wasatch territory at the 43 yard line.

Wasatch just converts on 3rd and 13 with another nice pass and catch from Davis to Nielson. They needed 13 and they got 18. they are now at their own 43 yard line.

The Juan Diego offense was once again deep into Wasatch territory but on 4th and 2 the Wasps come up with a big stop and take over on downs. You have to give Wasatch credit. They are big underdogs in this game but midway through the 3rd quarter they are in this game but now face a 3rd and 13 on their own 21 yard line.

Bad news for Juan Diego. Star Receiver and defensive back Keegan Anderson was injured on that 3rd down stop. He had to be carried off the field with what looked to be an ankle injury. We will see if his departure impacts the Soaring Eagle on both sides of the ball.

Wasatch received the opening kickoff and drove to the 35 yard line but were stopped on 3rd and 5.

The Wasps dodge a bullet. They just got a stop on 4th and 15 and take over on their own 39 yard line with 21 seconds left in the half. Both teams head into the locker room with Juan Diego on top by a touchdown. The Wasps will get the ball 1st in the 2nd half. Wasatch quarterback Payton Davis just scrambled 20 yards to get into the red zone and then Michael Davis scored his 2nd touchdown of the game on a 4 yard carry and the Wasps and staying in this game down just 7. The Wasps defense really needs to come up with a stop on this next posession.

The Soaring Eagle offense is executing at a very high level. They just marched down the field with very little resistance...until they got to the 1 yard line. Wasatch came up with three big stops forcing a 4th and 1 but Juan Diego went for it and Tana Vea easily found the end zone for a 21-7 lead. The Soaring Eagle are dominating the line of scrimmage running the ball well between the tackles. Also, A big "your welcome" to utefan4life! We'll be here all day.

The Wasps are on the board after a 4 yard dive into the end zone by Michael Davis. This was a score they had to have to stay in this game. Juan Diego is doing whatever they want to do offensively. The Soaring Eagle return the kickoff to the 20 yard line where they will start their next drive. Can the Wasps make the adjustments needed to get stops on this drive?

It took Juan Diego less than two minutes to drive 65 yards down the field for a touchdown. QB Cody Stevenson found WR Keegan Anderson for a 36 yard touchdown. Anderson made a diving catch and landed just inside the pylon for the score. Anderson will play for his dad Gary at Utah State next year. He showed with that play and with plays that he's made all season that he can play at the division I (FBS) level.
