STOCKTON -- The election hasn't technically happened yet, and already people in a small Utah town are considering a revote.
When Mayor Dan Rydalch suspended an officer who gave his son a ticket, it set of lot of Stockton residents off. Some town council members say he needs to retire.
Town council member Kendall Thomas said, "Everybody I talk to at work, people in our community, says that the mayor needs to take the high road [and] quit embarrassing the town."
On KSL's Nightside Project, Thomas said many residents have told him they can't support Mayor Rydalch now. But they strictly use mail-in ballots in Stockton.
"Last election, I think, all of the rural areas, because of the cost to the county, decided to do a mail-in ballot, and I personally like it," Thomas said.
Thomas says he feels more people in rural areas participate in elections with mail-in ballots. The issue is, the ballots need to be postmarked by Nov. 2, and many of them have already been sent. He wants to ask county officials if someone can come to the county courthouse to change their ballot before it's counted.
"Chances are probably remote, but it's certainly something we should be asking," Thomas said.
He says, even before this incident, it would have been a close mayoral race anyway.
"There is such a climate and a mood for a change. They've seen Mayor Dan Rydalch's decisions [and] how he runs the business in the town hall," he said.
Thomas is not the only council member looking into a revote. Fellow council member Don West also says he would support one.
