SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Kurt Cook will be sworn in as Salt Lake City's fire chief on Friday.
Mayor Ralph Becker will conduct the ceremony at the City Council chambers.
Cook has been with the department for nearly 24 years and is currently the deputy chief of operations.
He replaces outgoing Chief Tom Shannon, who is stepping down to return to Arizona to spend more time with his family.
Also on Friday, Cook is expected to announce several promotions in the department.
