(KSL News) -- Two local Marines were decorated with prestigious military honors tonight for their heroism in Iraq.

The Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device was awarded to Staff Sgt. Daniel V. Velis Junior.

Velis bravely entered a kill zone to rescue a wounded Marine.

And Captian Mark R. Vanderbeek was honored with the Air Medal with Combat Distiguishing Device for his actions while serving as a pilot, flying through dangerous extremely challenging terrain.
