SALT LAKE CITY -- The U.S. Department of Labor has reached an agreement with a Utah company about allegations of hiring discrimination.

Federal investigators have been looking into allegations that Orem-based Mity-Lite discriminated against anyone not of Pacific Island decent.

They reached an agreement in which Mity-Lite pays $157,000 in back pay to rejected applicants.

The company says the agreement does not include a finding of fault and the disproportionate demographic distribution of its employees dates back to previous ownership.

Company President and CEO Randy Hales told KSL, "Since the new owners have acquired the company, we have been in compliance [with the U.S. Department of Labor.]"
