ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- St. George police say a 48-year-old man was fatally shot by an officer after ignoring repeated orders to drop a gun.
Police say Craig Steiner of St. George died Friday night at Dixie Regional Medical Center after two officers responded to a domestic violence call.
Steiner is accused of exiting the home shortly after police arrived and pointing a gun at the officers.
Police say the officers fired one shot after Steiner failed to drop the weapon, and Steiner's wife was present at the time.
The State Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conduct an autopsy on Steiner's body.
The two officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Washington County Critical Incident Team.
Their names were not released.
