(KSL News) -- A watchful neighbor helped a Salt Lake City family escape a fire this afternoon.
Authorities say a woman and two small children inside a rental home didn't know their house was on fire. A neighbor saw the smoke coming from the second story and pounded on their front door, yelling, "Fire!"
Everyone got out okay. Damage to the roof and second story is estimated at $20,000.
The cause is under investigation. There were no smoke decectors in the home, which is illegal.
