SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A moderate Republican lawmaker and teacher has resigned his seat in the Utah House for a job with the state teacher's union.
Kory Holdaway, R-Taylorsville, will become the government relations director of the Utah Education Association in November. He replaces Vik Arnold, who retired.
Utah House of Representatives Chief of Staff Chris Bleak says Holdaway tendered his resignation late Monday. He says Holdaway's resignation is effective Nov. 3.
Holdaway was first elected to the House in 1998. He has been an outspoken supporter of public and higher education and most recently served as co-chair of the Higher Education Appropriations Committee.
Salt Lake County Republican party delegates will now must someone to replace Holdaway.
