SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A group pushing a ballot initiative that proposes a strict code of ethics for state lawmakers has scheduled a series of public hearings across Utah to discuss the issue.
Utahns for Ethical Government will hold the first of eight hearings Wednesday night at the Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center in Vernal.
Under Utah law, UEG must collect 100,000 signatures to qualify the initiative for the ballot during the 2010 general election.
The initiative calls for the establishment of an independent ethics commission that would set standards and enforcement policies for Utah lawmakers.
