SALT LAKE CITY -- She wasn't hurt physically, but a Salt Lake City woman says any sense of security she had was shattered at about 2 a.m. Friday when a man smashed through the apartment door leading into her bedroom. Part of the door hit her.

"I woke up. I don't really remember immediately after the event like how I got out of bed or what I did. I just remember standing and I looked out the window and I saw him running," she said.

The 26-year-old woman moved into the apartment just four weeks ago from out of state. She said it's her first time living on her own. "I'm going to be doubly scared every night for the rest of my life that I live by myself, even if I have an alarm and a gun and a dog," she said.

Police arrived within minutes and arrested 22-year-old Geoffrey Walker. He was booked into jail on burglary charges.

The victim doesn't know what prompted the attack, but she said the suspect's friend came to her house later Friday morning to tell her the suspect was drunk and was just "being stupid." He asked her to drop charges.

She said it's now in the hands of the police and the courts. She's not sure now if she'll move. "Part of me thinks, like, do you break down? Do you let them win? Do you let fear rule your life? Or do you say, 'You can't scare me'", she said.
