WEST VALLEY CITY -- A West Valley City woman is accused of beating her 7-year-old son because he wouldn't stop eating dinner and take a shower.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports it happened Sunday near 2000 West and 3605 South.

A witness called police and told them she heard the boy scream, "Mommy, don't hit me!" and heard hitting noises.

Court documents show the 25-year-old mother admitted to pulling her son by his hair into a bedroom and hitting him with a spatula, belt and flip flops. Apparently the boy had refused to get up from the dinner table and take a shower.

Police say they found red marks, scrapes and bruises on the child, along with older bruises.

The boy's mother was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of second-degree felony child abuse. Her bail is set at $25,000.
