RICHMOND -- A woman died when the car she was riding in crashed into a fence near Richmond in Cache County.

Officers say the car was eastbound on State Road 142 near Richmond around 8 p.m. Monday. They say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off the right shoulder. The driver overcorrected, the car hit a fence post on the passenger side and came to rest on its roof.

The passenger, identified as 24-year-old Katie Marie (Elliott) Sanders, of Lewiston, Utah, was partially ejected and died at the scene. No word on the driver's condition.

The initial investigation shows alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. Charges are pending.

The wreck closed the road for about three and a half hours.
