OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- An Ogden man digging in his garage came upon a 55-pound case of dynamite.

About 20 homes were evacuated as a safety precaution last evening and a bomb technician from Davis County was called in to inspect the box.

The dynamite was found to only be three years old -- not old enough to be unstable. It was safely removed and turned over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Police say the man had recently moved into the rental home and was puttering around in his garage yesterday when came upon a soft spot and started digging.

Police Lieutenant David Tarran says the man was quite alarmed when he found the explosives.
