NORTH OGDEN -- A North Ogden neighborhood will honor a fallen Marine next week.

Lance Cpl. Pedro Barboza died in Afghanistan last month while supporting combat operations. He was buried in California, but most of his family lives in Weber County.

A memorial service and tree planting in his honor will take place Monday, Aug. 10, at the Harrisville City Park. It's open to the public; see details below:

Memorial Service for Lance Cpl. Pedro Barboza
Date: Monday, Aug. 10
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: The Harrisville City Park (right on the Harrisville/North Ogden border, at 1350 W Hwy 89)
Details: The program will consist of a color guard and awards presentation by the U.S. Marine Corps, remarks from the mayors of North Ogden and Harrisville cities, a patriotic musical number, the planting of the memorial tree (and placement of a memorial plaque) and remarks from the Marine's family members. The Patriot Guard Riders will be there to form a flag line, such as occurs at military funerals, and we will have a number of other flags posted.

Following the service, we will be showing a video slideshow of Pete's life and military service. Refreshments will also be served.
