WEST VALLEY CITY -- A West Valley City family preparing for a vacation is now dealing with a fire-damaged motor home.

They awoke around 2:30 Wednesday morning to the sound of popping noises, and then saw their motor home engulfed in flames in the driveway near 3800 South and 6490 West.

A neighbor, Glen Parman, doused the home with water from a hose to help keep the fire from spreading.

"I grabbed the hose and told him to get his cars out of the driveway, move his cars away from the driveway, get them out of the fire," Parman said. "I just took the hose and started squirting the house, trying to keep the house from catching fire. I think it helped. It took them about 10 minutes to get here."

There is some damage to two homes, but no one was injured.

The motor home's owner told fire officials they were getting ready for a trip, and he had turned on the refrigerator inside the motor home before going to bed.
