OGDEN -- Window washing is out for the next year; newspaper subscriptions and staff cell phones have been reduced; and many positions are being left unfilled. Ogden management services director Mark Johnson says all in all, the city saving $2.2 million dollars in the general fund budget.
"That's a lot, but it's probably comparable to other cities in the state," he said.
Johnson says they will also not be upgrading computers or furniture.
"We kind of wanted to send a message to employees that these are tough times and we need to be cutting back," he said.
Johnson hopes this will last only a year. He says things like road maintenance cannot be put off forever. He also hopes grants will fill 10 of their open police officer positions by September.
