NEW YORK, Dec 10, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A jilted woman accused of searing an "R" into her ex-lover's torso made the branding iron with supplies she bought at Home Depot for $20, New York police say.

Kristina Caban, along with her new boyfriend and his friend, bought wire at the store and planned to spell out "RAPIST" on the body of Samir Sara, police tell The New York Post.

They also picked up a small, gas-fueled torch to heat the wire during an ambush on Sara at a sleazy New York hotel Oct. 22, police say.

The plan was cut short when Sara's screams caused his alleged assailants to panic and flee, leaving only a 4-inch "R" seared into his torso.

Caban, a 21-year-old School of Visual Arts photography student, faces up to 25 years in prison for her alleged role in the attack. She pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and assault last week.

Her new boyfriend, Robert Testagrossa, and his friend Joel Leonhard are wanted for questioning, police said.
