SALT LAKE CITY - Utahns across the state kicked off Independence Day with a string of patriotic parades.
Drummers, firefighters and school bands took over the streets of Provo Saturday morning for the highly-anticipated Freedom Festival Parade.
Brigham Young University President Cecil Samuelson, Utah Valley University President Dr. Matthew Holland and Sen. Bob Bennett served as Grand Marshals of the parade.
Organizers expected more than 250,000 people to show up for the big event.
Over in Layton, the scene looked very similar. People lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the colorful floats while listening to festive music at the Liberty Days Parade. Some lucky kids even took a ride on a fire truck.
Kaysville's parade was a wet one, but it didn't have anything to do with rain. Residents lined up to get soaked by trucks spraying water.
