Gene Kennedy ReportingFrightening moments for a 17-year-old girl. She was robbed at gunpoint behind the fast food restaurant where she works.
It was closing time at the Sonic Drive-In at 1300 S. State Street last night. The girl was taking a break from work as employees were closing down for the night.
The girl went behind the building to take a smoke break, and that's when she was robbed.
Lt. Craig Gleason / Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "Two black males came out of the alleyway or business access to the rear of Sonic. They approached her. One produced a gun, one demanded her cash. She handed over her apron. Her working money and tips were in there."
The employee was so shaken up, she hid in a bathroom for five minutes to try and calm down. She then told her co-workers what had happened.
By then, the robbers were long gone.
Lt. Craig Gleason / Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "I would suspect there was a car somewhere close. It looks like there was one right down the alley here. It seems like it may have been a spontaneous event, because they chose to rob an employee. But we can only guess as to their motive or if they had a plan."
Police say the girl was not prepared for anything like this. The teenager can't remember many details about the robbers. Police are hoping she may remember more in the next day or so.
Right now investigators have little to go on.
