SALT LAKE CITY - There is more buzz that Kirk Jowers and Josh Romney may share a ticket in the 2010 Utah governor's race.

Friday's "Swing State Project Morning Briefing" said the Jowers-Romney ticket is moving closer to reality. The Salt Lake Tribune recently reported the two men were seen together at an ice cream social hosted by Rep. Jason Chaffetz.

BYU political science professor Kelly Patterson says even though Lt. Governor Gary Herbert will be the governor for a year or so before that, it is still seen by many as an open seat.

"When you have open seats, what you have are lots of individuals who are going to consider their options," he said.

Jowers and Romney remain tight-lipped. "Now is the quiet phase of any run. There will be a great deal of exploration about what kind of money they can line up, about what kind of endorsements they will be able to secure, and a time for doing some polling to test positives and negatives," Patterson said.

Jowers is the head of the Hinckley Institute of Politics. Romney is former presidential candidate Mitt Romney's son and a real estate developer.
