AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) -- A former Boy Scout leader in Utah County has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a boy in his troop.

Court records show Gary Wade Brown, 42, pleaded guilty in 4th District Court on Tuesday to four counts of sex abuse of a child and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies. Eight other charges were dismissed.

Prosecutors say that between 2005 and 2006 Brown, of Orem, touched a 13-year-old boy's genitals and made the boy touch him on at least four occasions.

Brown will be required to register as a sex offender, which prosecutor Julia Thomas says is important because she says Brown abused his position as a Scout leader.

Sentencing is set for July 28.
