This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
In 1916, Reuben C. "Ruby" Syrett brought his family to the wilds of Southern Utah and established a ranch. A few weeks after his arrival, a neighboring rancher told Ruby about nearby Bryce Canyon. After visiting the canyon rim, Ruby and his family were so impressed that they became hosts to its visitors.
By 1919, the Syretts had obtained permission from the state to build a lodge near the brink of the canyon. And when Bryce Canyon became a national monument in 1923, Ruby moved the lodge to his ranch and named it Ruby's Inn. As the national monument gained popularity and eventually became a national park, Ruby's reputation also grew to the point that Ruby's Inn became a large business operation.
Today, Best Western Ruby's Inn is a well-known tourist destination in the recently incorporated Bryce Canyon City. Jean Seiler, Ruby's Inn marketing director, says the facility offers everything a traveler needs for a memorable trip to Bryce Canyon. Visitors can select whether to stay in hotel rooms, campsites or RV spots with a variety of amenities available for each type of lodging.
Jean tells me Ruby's Inn has experienced so much success that the Syrett family, now in its third generation of owning the inn. is opening a new freestanding hotel called the Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel. The new hotel boasts amenities that include a courtyard pool, exercise facility and guest laundry services. The nearby Ebenezer's Barn and Grill will offer cowboy cooking and nightly western entertainment for visitors to Bryce Canyon. A grand opening for the new facility is scheduled for later this month.
Best Western Ruby's Inn has come a long way from its humble beginning as tent houses and a place to serve meals. The facility now includes lodging and restaurants as well as attractions including a general store and western arts gallery. Jean says both Ruby's Inn and Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel are distinguished by their great location and famous western hospitality.
