CLEARFIELD -- Police in Clearfield have arrested a man accused of demanding sex from a teenage girl in exchange for room and board.

Police arrested Brandon Doyle Barrett, 26, on investigation of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old on Friday after the girl told an officer at her school.

Assistant Clearfield Police Chief Greg Krusi told KSL NewsRadio on Monday that Barrett and his wife took in the girl after she had been kicked out of her own home. He had also provided the teenager with cigarettes.

"She thought he was being nice by providing the cigarettes, but I guess it was more he felt later on that, 'If I'm providing you with cigarettes, you've got to pay me back," Krusi said. "The payback that he wanted was not money, of course, but sex."

Police said the girl did perform the sexual favors, feeling obligated because he was providing shelter and cigarettes. She later began to feel guilty about it, Krusi said.

"She knew that what was taking place was not right. She's 16 years old, he's 26. He's married," Krusi said.

The girl told a resource officer at her school, who initiated the investigation.

Doyle was booked into the Davis County Jail on Friday and later released on bail. Formal charges are pending, authorities said.

Krusi said the Division of Child and Family Services has also been contacted to investigate any inappropriate behavior concerning another teenage girl who lived at the house.
