Gene Kennedy and Mary Richards ReportingFrom the canyons to the roads, snow covered many parts of the state last night, and more scattered snow showers are expected today.

It was messy for many commuters traveling through Parley's Canyon and in Summit County last night.

The highway patrol says one driver died in last night's storm after a rollover on I-15 in Santaquin.

U-DOT trucks are patrolling the roads today, loaded with jumper packs, chains, cones, extra gasoline and water, they are ready to help anyone who slides off the road or who may not be prepared for the winter weather. Incident management driver, Alan Peterson of U-DOT, says it could get worse when the lake effect snow kicks in this afternoon.

This morning we've seen freezing temperatures and a light snowfall in some parts of the Wasatch Front.

Snow has fallen in some areas, including light showers in Davis County, causing a slow commute there. Whatever snow hit Davis County yesterday had melted by morning, but it was hard to tell what was on the pavement. Was it just wet? Was it ice? Bottom line, motorists needed to allow extra time to slow down.

More snow showers and cold temperatures are forecast for today. Much of the state is under a winter storm or heavy snow warning. But odds are it will be mild compared to what we saw in Summit County yesterday.

We took the brunt of this storm yesterday, and people driving in Park City and Heber know it. White-out conditions were so bad that troopers had to close I-80 and highway 40 until the blizzard blew through.

Looking at snow totals from yesterday, Alta got 17 inches, Heber got 3 inches, Park City got 9, Pleasant Grove 3, and Ogden 2 1/2 inches. So the snowfall amounts were very different depending on where you were.

Be on the lookout this morning for the possibility of ice. Yesterday, we saw several cars slide off the roads. One of our photographers even ended up stuck in Kimball Junction after driving up there to shoot video.
