Whit Johnson ReportingA man who works with kids involved in sex crimes is now accused of a sex crime himself.
The Utah Attorney General's office is not being specific as far as whether 28-year-old Grant Randall Tuft was working with child victims of sex crimes, or children that have committed sex crimes themselves. But we do know that he was working with kids.
He was arrested in the Salt Lake area last night for attempting to meet with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl for sex. That 13-year-old girl was really an undercover agent. The two met in an online chat room.
The Attorney General describes their online conversation as very aggressive sexual language with clear and specific detail.
Chief Ken Wallentine/ Utah Attorney General's Office: "I continue to be amazed that people do not know better. But there is a force, and I don't pretend to understand it, that drives individuals to want to meet kids for sexual purposes and to want to engage in child pornography. I can't begin to understand it."
The A.G.'s office says they have no reason to believe Tuft did indeed make any sexual contact with the children at Turning Point. That's the name of the facility where he worked in Cedar City. If he's convicted of the charges against him, he could see up to five years behind bars.
