TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- More than one hundred people will lose their jobs after a research facility at Deseret Chemical Depot in Tooele County closes its doors next year.
The facility near Stockton is scheduled to shut down October 2007 --- costing 130 people to lose their jobs.
Officials informed the workers last week that the Chemical Agent Munitions Disposal Systems would be closing next October. However, NOT all C-A-M-D-S workers are expected to lose their jobs. Officials say some may move into a different position, while others could bump people with lower seniority.
The depot's C-A-M-D-S plant has been an important test and development facility for chemical agent destruction since the 1970s.
The Deseret Chemical Depot is tentatively slated to close by 2012. However, officials say money could become available to keep it open until 2016 if necessary.
