SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A state judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the legality of a 13-part bill that became a catch-all law for many Utah education issues in 2008.
The lawsuit filed on behalf of 38 legislators, former lawmakers and education officials accused the Legislature of violating the Utah Constitution when it wrapped 13 separate bills into one. Under state law, bills are supposed to be limited to one subject and have a clear title.
Republican leaders say the bill did address one subject: education.
In a ruling issued last week and received by state officials Tuesday, 3rd District Judge L.A. Dever ruled the complaint wasn't legally sufficient.
