SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake City woman is outraged after a delivery van rolled down a hill and crashed into her front yard. Still, she's glad it didn't kill anyone.
It happened around 8:45 Friday morning at 2826 E. Glen Oaks Drive (2235 South).
Homeowner Rosemary Beless heard a loud crash. The furniture delivery truck drivers say the truck hopped its tire stop on a steep hill and rolled into the hedges, just missing a power pole.
"It's wrecked my front yard," Beless said.
The two delivery men were not inside the truck when it rolled away. They say they were delivering a couch to the house next door. The furniture was from Macy's in West Valley, but the truck is from an independent contracting company.
Moving the truck from Beless's front bushes was dicey because it started to tilt. Crews were worried it would tip over, or start rolling down the street again.
Beless let out a gasp when the truck was finally inched back out of her deep hedges.
"It's been a horrible morning," she said. But she is glad the truck didn't keep rolling down the hill, picking up speed before crashing into something else, or somebody.
She says this isn't over.
"They need to step up and pay for it," she said.
Beless says she's not sure yet how much it will cost to repair the damage. "I know it wrecked my sprinkling system, and I just paid to have the whole thing landscaped. The bushes are all old. But it didn't hit the power pole, which is really, really fortunate," she said.
No word yet on any citations. Police were waiting to get inside the stabilized truck to investigate whether it has a parking brake or whether it was properly applied.
