Witnesses called police after they spotted three men, one with a gun, fighting near 4000 South and 500 East around 5 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, the men had scattered.
Officers were able to catch and arrest one of them. They say he was carrying ecstasy pills and had a $50,000 outstanding warrant.
Three schools in the area were locked down while deputies looked for the other suspects.
Lt. Don Hutson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said, "Obviously when you have weapons and drugs, there's always potential for real danger."
Friday morning two suspects are still at large and the gun hasn't been found.
