SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake's Census Bureau office has been busy attending Cinco de Mayo festivals. Among the festivities and food, office manager Todd Hansen says they've been setting up booths, handing out prizes and pamphlets.
"Yeah, we have a lot of fun. We want it to be fun," Hansen said. He says the idea is to help overcome any fears Latinos might have in participation in the upcoming census.
Hansen and his coworkers stress they aren't immigration agents and they don't even care about a person's legal status, they just need an accurate number of how many people are in the state.
"Everyone that is counted brings more money to their state and their communities," Hansen explained.
He says typically in Utah, the Latino community is underreported in the census.
