SALT LAKE CITY -- Significant lane restrictions on I-80 and SR-201 begin Tuesday as UDOT ramps up summer road construction.

Interstate 80 will be restricted to one lane in each direction at the Echo Interchange during daylight hours Tuesday.

Crews are taking core samples of the roadway in preparation for bridge construction later this year.

Lane restrictions will last a little longer on State Route 201 as UDOT begins its Lane Gain Project between Bangerter Highway and 5600 West.

UDOT will keep two lanes open during peak commuting times while construction is underway:

  • Eastbound lanes: From now until May 8 both lanes will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Lane restrictions will take place in various places along the corridor from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Westbound lanes: From now until May 15 both lanes will be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Lanes will be restricted to one lane from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In mid-May, traffic will be switched to the north side of the roadway and reversible lanes will be implemented to provide a two eastbound/one westbound lane configuration for the morning commute and a two westbound/one eastbound lane configuration for the evening commute.
