PROVO, Utah (AP) -- After an acquittal on charges of misused public funds, ex-Eagle Mountain Mayor Brian Olsen has filed a civil lawsuit hoping to recoup his legal fees.
Olsen was charged with seven felonies. Prosecutors alleged Olsen had knowingly billed the city for trips he didn't take. Olsen said he didn't know of any problems because staff handled his paperwork.
A jury acquitted Olsen in September.
Documents filed in February in 4th District Court show Olsen incurred nearly $120,000 in legal fees fighting the charges. He says Utah law provides for the payment of legal fees for public officials when prosecuted and found innocent of crimes.
Eagle Mountain spokeswoman Linda Peterson says the city never comments on ongoing litigation.
