SUMMIT COUNTY -- Several more law enforcement agencies are lining up against a new law that would require officers to check a person's immigration status.
This summer Senate Bill 81 will make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to get jobs and utilize government services; but enforcement of the law falls on police.
The bill's sponsor says officers would only have to check immigration status after an arrest is made. But this week the Salt Lake City Police Department said the law will force its officers to racially profile people, something it won't do.
Park City police and the Summit County Sheriff's Office are now saying the same thing. Both say immigration laws should be enforced by federal immigration officers.
