SALT LAKE CITY -- A would-be thief not only left the scene of a car burglary empty-handed but apparently left his cell phone behind.
Fabian Martinez was leaving his Salt Lake home for work on Wednesday when he saw something suspicious in his car.
"When I got into the car, I noticed that my car was totally a mess," he said. It was obvious someone had broken in.
Martinez then noticed a cell phone sitting on the passenger seat. It wasn't his, and it didn't belong to anyone in his family, so he started to investigate.
"I went through the cell phone and started reading some of the texts," he explained.
He says there were messages about other stolen property. The voice mailbox even mentioned the suspect's apparent name.
Salt Lake police say they have good leads in tracking the burglar.
