PROVO, Utah (AP) -- About 170 people are protesting a mining company's plans to dig for rocks in the scenic Rock Canyon area.
Neighbors say they're worried that hauling rocks away from the canyon would destroy the area's natural beauty.
Richard Davis, who owns 50 percent of the mining claim on the federal land, says mining would probably last for up to five years, ten hours a day.
Than angered many nearby residents who gathered Saturday to learn about the proposal. They say they're concerned about dust, noise, erosion, access to the canyon, the safety of hikers, devaluation of homes and permanent loss of the canyon's aesthetic.
