SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Airfare prices from Salt Lake City International Airport are soaring.
According to a report released this week by the U-S Transportation Department, fair prices from the airport increased 17 percent from the same time last year.
Fares in the rest of the country averaged an increase of eleven percent.
Higher jet fuel prices and strong demand from travelers are responsible for the increase in Salt Lake City's fares.
David Stempler is the president of the Air Travelers Association.
He says fares aren't likely to decrease before the end of the year, but demand will continue.
He says Utahns who hope to travel or bring family to the state for the holidays should book flights soon. He says seats could be limited.
