Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - John Tait's NFL career came to an official end on Thursday when the Chicago Bears put the veteran offensive tackle on the reserve/retired list.

The 34-year-old Tait has been dealing with a variety of ankle injuries and walked away from the final year of his contract in which he was due to make $4.8 million.

Drafted by the Chiefs in the first round of the 1999 draft, Tait spent his first five seasons playing in Kansas City before joining the Bears. Over his career, Tait played in 134 regular season games, starting 123 of them. He was in just two games last season.

At BYU, Tait started all 37 games played during his three-year college career. Tait was an All-America pick his final season and earned first-team All-WAC honors as a junior and a senior.
