Shelley Osterloh ReportingA growing group of volunteers is changing the lives of a Sandy family and transforming a neighborhood in the process. If you need to have your faith in the goodness of people restored a little, just come out and see what's happening in this Sandy neighborhood.
Hundreds of professional tradespeople, neighbors and just folks who have something to donate, have built a house for a family that really needs it.
The Smeltzer family raised eight children in their old house, but it was falling apart and almost unworkable, considering several family members have a genetic disease. David needs a wheelchair but couldnt get it in the door.
So a week ago Monday, volunteers for the Heart to Home demolished it. Just four work days later the exacavation was done, concrete poured and the framing and part of the roof was in place. Now, after just ten days of building, workers are painting the walls.
Scores of companies have donated materials and labor. The giving spirit has spread to nieghbors who have gone to nearby restaurnts to get food donated,every day. The group, Heart to Home started with nothing but an idea and day by day their prayers and wishes have been answered.
If you want to help out, there is plenty of work to be done at the neighborhood cleanup on Saturday.
