COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 17, 2006) - The NJCAA Football Poll has been shaken and stirred this week with a new team at the No. 1 post and several teams moving up and dropping down following several upsets this past weekend.
Snow College (8-0) takes over the No. 1 ranking following a 46-25 win over previously 17th-ranked Scottsdale Community College (Ariz.) on Oct. 14. Besides the Badgers three-point victory over No. 6 Glendale Community College (Sept. 30), Snow's average margin of victory has been 35 points this season. They received 101 total votes and four of seven first place votes to take over the No. 1 ranking. Snow is the third different team this season to claim to the top spot (Pearl River Community College and Butler Community College).
Butler Community College (7-0) falls to No. 2 this week despite their 26-20 overtime win over Fort Scott Community College (Kan.) this weekend. It was the second consecutive game for Butler in which they were heavily contested. On Oct. 7, the Grizzlies came back from a 14-3 deficit to score 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat No.13 Coffeyville Community College (Kan.). Butler received 98 total votes and two first place votes.
Blinn College remains at No. 3 for the fourth-consecutive week as they received 95 total votes and one first place vote. The Buccaneers shut-out Northeaster Oklahoma A&M 35-0 to improve to 7-0 on the season and the lone undefeated team in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. Blinn next takes on No. 10 Cisco Junior College (Texas) in the NJCAA Game of the Week.
The rest of the Top 10 looks very different as Jones County Junior College (Miss.), Cisco Junior College and Iowa Central Community College all drop several spots after being handed their first loss of the season this weekend.
As a result Pearl River Community College (Miss.), Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Glendale Community College (Ariz.), Vermilion Community College (Minn.) and Garden City Community College (Kan.) all improved their season records with wins and moved up several spots in the Top 10.
This week's poll also features the return of Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Miss.) at No. 18 and Northland Community and Technical College at No. 20.
