SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State lawmakers will need to cut another $320 million from the state budget.
Revenue estimates released Tuesday show that even after making about $400 million in cuts so far this year, state revenues will be $171 million less than originally projected for the current fiscal year and down $320 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
Gov. Jon Huntsman's proposed budget of $10.6 billion was already $900 million less than the one lawmakers approved around this time last year.
Since Huntsman released his budget in December, Utah's economy has continued to slide amid a nationwide housing crisis that's hit Utah's construction industry hard.
In anticipation of declining revenues, lawmakers have been planning to cut every state agency's budget by up to 15 percent.
