In today's media-driven world, it's not easy for concerned parents to protect their children from objectionable and harmful influences. Topping the list for many families is the onslaught of pornography, which has become pervasively accessible to youngsters through the various new media forms kids access nowadays.
One survey claims 90% of 7 - 17 year olds have viewed pornography online, most while doing homework. The average age of first exposure to pornography on the Internet is said to be 11.
Parents should be concerned!
For those who may be searching for help, KSL supports the efforts of the Utah Coalition Against Pornography. The broad-based organization's 6th annual conference on protecting children and families from pornography will be held October 28 at the SouthTown Expo in Sandy. If you're a concerned parent, the conference would be worth attending. Plenty of good information will be available.
Beyond the conference, UCAP this month is launching a statewide effort to educate parents about the extent of the pornography problem in Utah, along with making available some helpful tools designed to help them protect their families.
In KSL's view, the undertaking is appropriate and timely. Parents ought to know what their kids are doing, and have the wisdom to do what's needed to keep them safe.
