PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A former Boy Scout leader in Utah County has been charged with sexually abusing a boy in his troop.

Gary Wade Brown, 41, is charged with eight counts of felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child, one count of felony sexual exploitation of a minor and four misdemeanor counts of lewdness involving a child.

Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Brower says Brown, of Orem, was arrested on Jan. 21 after an investigation into allegations that he abused at least one scout in 2005 and 2006.

Brower says Brown, who appeared in court Thursday, allegedly started the abuse when the boy was 13 and that it continued over a two-year period.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 3.

Shelden Carter, Brown's attorney, told The Associated Press he had no comment.
