(KSL News) The power is back on for thousands of people in Sandy.
It was knocked out when a car spun out of control and slammed into a power pole near 1300 East and 9100 South last night. The accident, which police blame on slick roads, cut power to 7,300 people for about two hours.
Witness Rob Bingle said, "I heard this really loud electrical static sound, and the power went out just like that."
A responding patrolman's car got tangled up in the live lines. He had to wait until power officials showed up to free him. Neither he nor the driver who caused the crash was hurt.
The road was shut for about an hour and a half and power was restored around midnight.
While power was restored in Sandy, Rocky Mountain Power says more than 1,500 customers are in the dark along the east bench of Salt Lake City this morning and 120 are without power elsewhere in the state.
