SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Utah lost about 24,600 jobs in the past year.

An employment report released Tuesday says Utah recorded its third straight month of job losses in December as the state's work force contracted by nearly 2 percent, compared with the same month in 2007.

Meanwhile, the state's unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent in December, up from 2.9 percent the previous December. The United States unemployment rate was 7.2 percent.
