CHICAGO, Oct 2, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Chicago artist Jeanne Dunning staged a food fight with 3,000 pounds of stewed tomatoes and 10 participants as part of an unusual art performance.
The Chicago Tribune reported Dunning organized the Sunday event as part of an artistic series called "At the Edge," and modeled the battle after Spain's famed "La Tomatina" festival.
The 45-year-old Northwestern University professor had staged the food fight in San Francisco years ago for a photography exhibit, but this time she introduced an audience to the messy event, the report said.
"It must be very liberating and fun," said area student Jennifer Rozell, who witnessed the event at a field near the University of Illinois at Chicago. "I think it's very beautiful, watching the people, their bodies, their facial expressions, get very playful. It's really awesome."
The newspaper said that "At the Edge" is currently being showcased at UIC's College of Architecture and the Art's Gallery 400.
